Lowell girls basketball earned a 50–47 home non-conference victory over Merrillville girls basketball.
The game was played Jan. 27 at Lowell High School in Lowell, Indiana.
The matchup stayed tight throughout, with both teams trading baskets and defensive stops across four quarters. Merrillville kept pressure on early, but Lowell responded with disciplined half-court execution and strong rebounding to keep the game within one or two possessions for most of the night. Neither team was able to pull away, setting up a competitive finish.
Lowell gained separation in the fourth quarter by capitalizing at the free-throw line and converting key possessions down the stretch. Defensive pressure forced turnovers, and the Red Devils limited second-chance opportunities to protect the narrow lead in the closing minutes. The ability to execute late proved to be the difference in the three-point victory.
Senior Hayden Blocker provided leadership on both ends of the floor, finishing with key points and controlling the paint during critical stretches. Junior Josephine Laub helped facilitate the offense, while juniors Gatlin Hanrath and Brooke Dawson contributed defensively and on the glass. Sophomore Ella Labas and the rest of the rotation added valuable minutes as Lowell maintained composure late.
The win marked a strong home performance for Lowell as the Red Devils continued to build momentum against non-conference competition.
