The Lowell Red Devils boys basketball team is set to begin the 2025–26 season with a focus on rebuilding its identity through leadership and defensive toughness.
According to head coach Joe Delgado, the team’s goal this winter is to continue the progress initiated last year when six seniors helped re-establish a winning standard. The Red Devils will open their season at home against River Forest on Tuesday, November 25, at 7 p.m. inside Lowell High School. Delgado said that the program is now looking to a new group of players to “continue to build on what last year’s seniors started” after losing nearly 90 percent of the team’s scoring and defensive production.
Josh Hejnowski, a multi-sport athlete coming off a strong soccer season, emphasized that the team plans to anchor its success on the defensive end. “Last year’s group showed us what an offensive identity looks like,” Hejnowski said. “This year we want to have that same intensity on defense—get after people and make it hard for them to score.”
Following their opening game, Lowell will travel to Wheeler for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, December 2, at 7 p.m.
