Lowell boys basketball dropped a 58–33 decision to Valparaiso in a nonconference road matchup as the Vikings used a strong first half and a balanced scoring attack to pull away.
The game was played Jan. 27 at Valparaiso High School, where the Red Devils trailed 30–12 at halftime after being limited to just two points in the second quarter.
Lowell stayed competitive early, scoring 10 points in the opening period and keeping pace before Valparaiso began to stretch the lead with defensive pressure and efficient transition offense. The Vikings outscored the Red Devils 16–14 in the third quarter and 12–9 in the fourth to maintain control and close out the game.
The Red Devils found some rhythm from the perimeter in the second half, knocking down multiple three-pointers to cut into the margin, but struggled to generate consistent looks in the paint against Valparaiso’s size and physicality. Despite the final score, Lowell continued to compete on both ends and worked to slow the Vikings’ pace in the closing minutes.
Up next, Lowell boys basketball will travel to Whiting on Feb. 10 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
The last time the Red Devils faced Whiting, Lowell earned a 52–22 victory on Feb. 11.
