Lowell continuing to grow behind Dawson and Hanrath leadership

0Comments

The Lowell Red Devils girls’ basketball team is continuing its 2025–26 season with a focus on growth, balance, and leadership under the guidance of head coach Kelly Chavez.

According to Chavez, following a successful campaign highlighted by a sectional title, the team is working to redefine its identity after the graduation of six seniors, including two top scorers. The team will play its sixth game of the season at home against Griffith on Saturday, November 22, at 1:30 p.m. inside Lowell High School. Chavez noted that this year’s group features a smaller roster but includes a deeper mix of contributors. “We have a lot of sophomores fighting for positions, and the juniors are stepping into bigger roles,” she said. “We’re taller, faster, and playing more as a unit — it’s progress every day.”

Brooke Dawson, the team’s point guard, expressed her intention to lead by example. “As a point guard, I feel like it’s my job to carry the team and build confidence in the younger players,” she said. Fellow teammate Gatlin Hanrath mentioned that with Alicia graduating, she is stepping up inside and aims to help underclassmen grow while maintaining strong energy within the team.

The next game for Lowell will be an away match against Hanover Central on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 7 p.m.
