Lowell dropped a low-scoring nonconference home game Thursday, falling 33–28 to Gary West Side in a defensive battle.
The game was played Jan. 8 at Lowell High School in Lowell, Indiana.
The Red Devils struggled offensively in the first half, scoring just six points in the opening two quarters as Gary West Side built a 20–6 halftime lead. Lowell showed resilience after the break, outscoring the Cougars 15–7 in the fourth quarter and cutting the deficit to five in the final minutes, but the early hole proved too much to overcome. Senior Roan Vasko led Lowell with 12 points, while junior Ezra Rumisek added five. Seniors B. Spearson and Ty Fredericksen and sophomore Aiden Hernandez each contributed four or more points as the Red Devils attempted to rally late.
Defensively, Lowell competed throughout, forcing 16 turnovers and recording seven steals while holding Gary West Side to 33 points. The Red Devils also controlled the defensive glass with 20 rebounds and limited second-chance opportunities. Despite the slow start, Lowell’s fourth-quarter surge showed improved ball movement and execution in the half court, keeping the game within reach until the final possessions.
Up next, Lowell will travel to face Kankakee Valley at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 in a conference matchup.
