The Lowell boys basketball team dropped a 42–35 decision to Highland in a conference matchup.
The game was played Jan. 10 at Lowell High School, where the Red Devils built an early lead before Highland used a strong second half to pull ahead.
Lowell set the tone defensively in the opening quarter, holding Highland to four points while taking a 9–4 lead after one. The Red Devils continued to control the pace in the second quarter behind balanced scoring and rebounding, going into halftime with a 24–14 advantage. Roan Vasko and Ezra Rumisek led the offensive effort with five points each, while Ty Fredericksen added four and provided steady play in the backcourt. Aiden Hernandez and Donovan Pace also contributed baskets as Lowell worked the ball inside and generated second-chance opportunities.
Highland responded in the third quarter with increased defensive pressure and consistent scoring, trimming the deficit and eventually taking the lead in the fourth. Lowell continued to battle on the glass and create open looks, but was limited to 11 points in the second half as the Trojans closed the game at the free-throw line.
Up next, Lowell will host Munster in a conference matchup scheduled for Jan. 30 with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
