In their season opener Tuesday, the Lowell High School varsity girls soccer team put forth a spirited and resilient effort but ultimately fell 4–2 to Hanover Central. After trailing 3–0 at halftime, the Red Devils mounted a second-half comeback that showcased their heart and potential.
Sophomore Ashley Mecha and freshman Camille Joppek provided offensive energy, each scoring to bring the team back into contention. Mecha converted a sharp strike from the top of the box, while Joppek latched onto a well-timed assist from senior Brooke Miller, who created space and linked the midfield to the attack.
Though Hanover Central was strong in the early stages, Lowell’s improved communication and pressure in the second half made for a more balanced contest. Defensive efforts tightened, and the keeper made several timely saves that prevented the score from widening. The late resurgence underscored Lowell’s resilience and highlighted the teamwork that could define their season ahead.
