The Lowell High School varsity girls volleyball team earned a commanding win Wednesday, defeating Merrillville in straight sets, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17. The Red Devils controlled the tempo throughout the night, using balance and energy to collect their third victory of the young season.
Emily Aguilar was steady at the net, finishing with six kills that gave Lowell consistent offensive momentum. Setter Josie Laub guided the attack with 13 assists, distributing the ball effectively to keep Merrillville’s defense off balance. From the service line, senior Dafne Aguilar-Martinez was outstanding, recording eight aces and fueling runs that stretched the lead in each set.
Defensively, Lowell maintained structure and awareness, with back-row players making timely digs to extend rallies. The combination of sharp serving and disciplined coverage proved too much for Merrillville, and the Red Devils closed out each set with confidence.
The sweep lifted Lowell to 3-1 overall and added to the momentum the program is building early this fall. With the mix of veteran leadership and developing underclassmen, the Red Devils continue to look sharp on their home floor.
