Lowell boys wrestling turned in a strong team performance at the Al Smith Invitational, finishing fourth overall in a competitive 32-team boys wrestling field with contributions throughout the lineup.
The tournament took place on Jan. 3 at Lowell High School.
All 14 Red Devil wrestlers contributed points over the course of the event, with six advancing to day two and competing in the placement rounds. Lowell’s ability to score across the lineup allowed the team to remain in contention throughout the tournament against a deep field.
Lowell crowned three tournament champions. Noel Verduzco captured first place at 126 pounds, Evan Stanley claimed the title at 138, and heavyweight Kameron Hazelett finished first at HWT, each navigating full brackets to secure championship runs. Dalton Robson added a fifth-place finish at 144, while Gavin Longoria placed seventh at 106 and Hunter Mallory finished eighth at 132, providing additional placement points to the team total.
The combination of championship performances, multiple placers, and depth across all weight classes helped Lowell secure its fourth-place team finish and marked one of the team’s strongest showings of the season.
Lowell will return to action on Jan. 14 at 11:30 p.m. against Hanover Central.
