The Lowell Red Devils collected 11 hits and launched a first-inning homer but dropped a high-scoring 10-8 decision to the Munster Mustangs on Monday at Lowell.
The game took place on Monday, April 20, at Lowell High School.
Ryan Wellwerts homered to left field and Max Van Deursen singled to give Lowell a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. The Red Devils battled back to tie the game at 8-8 in the fifth on a double by Zak Scharnike, a single from Cam Mikulich, a double by Gavin Gutierrez and a single by Derek Rice. Lowell added one more run in the seventh but could not overcome Munster’s late surge.
Zak Scharnike took the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits in three innings. Ryan Wellwerts, Derek Rice, Zak Scharnike and Cam Mikulich each collected two hits to pace the Lowell attack. Wellwerts also drove in a run while Brett Beardsley, Gavin Gutierrez and others added RBIs in the Red Devils’ offensive outburst. Lowell stranded several runners in the late innings and committed four errors in the field.
