The Lowell Red Devils were blanked by the Hanover Central Wildcats 7-0 in varsity softball.
The game took place on Wednesday, April 22, at Hanover Central High School.
The Red Devils struggled offensively the entire contest, recording just two hits against Hanover Central pitcher Jillian DeYoung. DeYoung was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout while striking out seven and walking three over seven innings. Lowell’s batters struck out seven times and were unable to capitalize on three walks.
Starting pitcher Riley Miller took the loss for Lowell after going five innings. Miller allowed 10 hits and seven runs, with only two earned, while walking two and striking out one. Leah White came in to pitch the sixth inning, allowing one hit but no runs in relief. The Red Devils defense committed three errors, which contributed to five unearned runs for the Wildcats.
It was a tough outing for the Red Devils as they were unable to solve DeYoung’s pitching or generate timely hits. The team showed some resilience in limiting further damage late but fell short in all facets against a solid Hanover Central squad.
