High-octane offense and a masterclass in plate discipline define a classic nail-biter; the Lowell Red Devils captured a gritty 11-9 win over Illiana Christian on Thursday.
The contest took place on May 7 at Illiana Christian High School.
The visitors erupted for eight runs in the opening frame, stringing together clutch hits and capitalizing on opportunities to build a lead that proved decisive. Senior Addison Fagan was a catalyst, going 3‑for‑4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while fellow senior Preslee Hill drove in three runs on two hits to keep the pressure on Illiana throughout the contest. Peyton Lonardi added a double and an RBI, and Chole Cora chipped in a run‑scoring single as Lowell’s lineup spread production across the order.
Freshman pitcher Leah White anchored the effort in the circle, battling through a complete seven‑inning performance. She allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits but struck out five, showing poise in closing out the win against Illiana’s late surge. The Vikings rallied for five runs in the sixth to cut the deficit, but Lowell’s early cushion and balanced hitting approach held firm. With contributions from veterans and underclassmen alike, the Red Devils showcased depth, discipline, and resilience in securing a gritty non‑conference victory.
Looking ahead, the Lowell Red Devils will return home on Wednesday, May 13, to host Hobart.
