Lowell edged Portage 7–6 in a tense non-conference baseball matchup, holding off a late rally to secure the home victory.
The contest was played on May 7 at Lowell High School, where the Red Devils built an early cushion and then fought to preserve it through the final innings.
Lowell struck quickly, plating a run in the first before exploding for five in the second to seize control. By the third inning, the Red Devils had extended their lead to 7–3, with timely hitting from Camden Mikulich, Mason Umfleet, and Ryan Wellwerts, each recording two hits and combining for five RBIs. Derek Rice added two runs scored, while Hudson Van Deursen chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI to keep the offense rolling.
On the mound, Wellwerts earned the win despite allowing 10 hits and six runs across five innings, striking out six. Relief came from Michael Reidenga, who tossed two scoreless frames to close the door. Defensively, Lowell showed resilience, turning in key outs to halt Portage’s momentum after the Indians clawed back with runs in the third and fifth.
