Lowell wrestling delivered one of its strongest postseason performances in program history, placing fourth as a team at the 88th IHSAA Boys Wrestling State Finals with four medalists and two individual state champions.
The state finals were held Feb. 21-22 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where seven Red Devils qualified to compete among Indiana’s top wrestlers.
Junior Evan Stanley captured the 138-pound state championship following an impressive 41-3 season. He earned a major decision in the opening round before recording a fall in the quarterfinals and an 8-1 semifinal victory to advance to the championship match. Under the lights, Stanley secured the title with a thrilling 9-8 decision to claim his first state crown.
Sophomore Kameron Hazelett continued his dominance at heavyweight, winning his second consecutive state championship. Hazelett finished the season 38-2, earning a major decision in the opening round before recording falls in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. He sealed the title with a first-period pin in 1:17 during the championship match.
Lowell also received podium finishes from Noel Verduzco, who placed third at 126 pounds, and Gavin Longoria, who finished eighth at 106 pounds after earning an early fall victory during tournament competition.
Hunter Mallory, Cayden Yuran and Tyler Quarles also represented the Red Devils at state, helping Lowell secure its highest team finish since 2000 and continue the program’s strong postseason tradition.
