Noel Verduzco earned a third-place finish at the IHSAA Boys Wrestling State Finals, capping a strong sophomore season at 126 pounds for Lowell.
The state finals were held Feb. 21-22 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where Verduzco represented the Red Devils after advancing through the sectional, regional and semi-state rounds.
Verduzco entered the tournament with a 34-7 record and secured several key victories during the postseason run. He recorded pins against Munster’s Diego Betancourt and Rochester’s Grant Holloway before earning a 4-1 decision over Crown Point’s Colin Strayer in the consolation bracket to reach the third-place match. Earlier in the state tournament series, Verduzco also pinned Illiana Christian’s Ben Armstrong in 33 seconds.
Throughout the season, Verduzco recorded wins over multiple ranked opponents, including a major decision over Roncalli’s Blake Getz and a decision victory against Garrett’s Abrum Swathwood. His consistent performance throughout the year helped establish him among the top competitors in Indiana at 126 pounds.
Verduzco finished the season with a 34-7 record and now holds a 75-8 career mark through his first two varsity seasons, continuing Lowell’s strong tradition of success in the state wrestling tournament.
